Pastel – New Mural in San Leandro

Next up on the Athen B. Gallery series of walls with San Leandro is Francisco Diaz aka Pastel from Buenos Aires, Argentina. The mural entitled “Costanoans” is over three hundred feet long and around 30 ft tall it is located off the side of Highway 880 at Marina West Exit. Photographs by Brock Brake. “Costanoan by early Spanish colonists, are a Native American people of the Northern California coast. When Spanish explorers and missionaries arrived in the late 18th century, the Ohlone (named costanoans by the spanish colony), inhabited the area along the coast from San Francisco Bay through Monterey Bay to the lower Salinas Valley”. – Pastel

Francisco Diaz – New Mural in Manila

Muralist Francisco Diaz, also known as Pastel, recently made his way out to the Philippines for a beautiful new mural enitled “Calamansi and Sampaguita” for the Art BGC Mural Festival. The Argentinean artist based the new mural off symbolic flowers of the region hence the title. The wall is also one of his largest murals to date.

Francisco Diaz – Murals in Overlooked Areas

Argentinian artist Francisco Diaz (also known as Pastel) uses a beautiful organic and botanical visual aesthetic in his work. Pastel fills his walls with large amounts of patterns based on the local flora of the area he’s painting in. He also generally brilliantly and strategically places his work in overlooked and disregarded areas of the city or town.
